Raipur : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Chhattisgarh's first Microbiology Food Testing Laboratory in Kalibadi, Raipur, via video conferencing from Rajkot on Sunday. Prime Minister Shri Modi initiated a new tradition of inaugurating and laying the foundation of several projects simultaneously related to healthcare services in the country. Shri Modi stated that, by working at such a rapid pace, the resolution of a developed India will be fulfilled.

During the program, Chhattisgarh's Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Modi and stated that the Chhattisgarh Government is firmly committed to fulfilling the “Modi ki Guarantee”. He said, "Our government is dedicated to providing every citizen with pure, high-quality, safe, and nutritious food. This lab will serve as a shield for food security so that the vision of good health can be achieved".

Since December 2006, the Food Testing Laboratory has been operational in the new building located in Kalibadi, Raipur. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Microbiology Food Testing Laboratory on Sunday. This laboratory has been prepared with additional financial assistance of Rs 4 crore 33 lakh from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi. It is the first food microbiology laboratory in the state.

Food-borne illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhoea, typhoid, fever, hepatitis, skin-related diseases, etc., can occur due to contaminated food and drinking water. Previously, the laboratory used to conduct chemical testing, heavy metal testing, pesticide testing, and vitamin testing, but there was no testing process available as per the microbiological standards. Now, with a modern microbiology laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art machines, it will be possible to test for bacteria, fungi, yeast, moulds, etc., that contaminate food items.

Raipur Rural MLA Shri Motilal Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Smt. Renu G. Pillay, Controller Food and Drug Administration Shri Deepak Soni, MD NHM Dr. Jagdish Sonkar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Shri Abinash Mishra, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India Shri Pulkesh, FSSAI officer Shri Sharad Rao, departmental officers, and a large number of staff were present.
