Acting on the Chief Minister’s vision, tourism in Chhattisgarh has been granted the status of an industry, and the new industrial policy includes multiple incentives for its promotion. A Home-Stay Policy has been introduced to boost tourism in the Bastar and Sarguja regions. Taking these initiatives forward, the state government has launched an innovative programme to provide employment opportunities for the youth—particularly from the Bastar region—through tourist guide training.

In line with the Chief Minister’s directives, a team of 45 young trainees was sent, with the support of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, to the Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM), Gwalior, for specialized guide training. The group has now returned after completing a one-month intensive programme. These trained youth will be appointed as tourist guides at various tourism sites across Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Shri Sai and Tourism Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal congratulated the trainees on successfully completing the programme. The Chief Minister said that the state’s natural beauty, lush valleys, and picturesque tourist spots have the potential to transform Chhattisgarh into a major tourism hub. He emphasized that the tourism sector offers vast possibilities and will open new avenues for employment and entrepreneurship. He urged the trained youth to actively highlight the facilities and attractions of Chhattisgarh’s tourist destinations to visitors, which will help increase tourist footfall and boost the tourism-based economy.

It is noteworthy that the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board organized this special tourist guide training programme after a gap of seven years. A majority of the participants are from the Bastar division. During the training, the youth received instruction in tourist guidance, communication skills, cultural heritage, tourism management, and practical field training—equipping them to effectively present the state’s natural beauty and cultural richness. These trained guides will play a key role in promoting Chhattisgarh’s cultural and natural destinations and elevating the state’s tourism industry to new heights.
