Raipur : Recognising exemplary delivery of banking services in rural pockets, the state government conferred the ‘Excellent BC Sakhi Award’ to Durg district resident Smt. Tara Sahu.
Smt. Tara Sahu, a resident of Nandini Khurdni Gram Panchayat in Durg district, has been honored for her outstanding work in providing banking services at the rural level. The award was presented to her by the Mission Director, Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM), during the state-level workshop held at New Circuit House, Civil Lines, Raipur. In her absence, the award was received by Ameen Didi.
As per SRLM officials, Smt. Sahu joined the Bihan Self-Help Group in 2018 and began working as a Banking Correspondent (BC) Sakhi. Despite limited resources and technical challenges in the beginning, she took training and continued to advance her work. With the assistance received from the Livelihood Mission, she purchased a laptop and started providing regular services through Bank of India, Pathariya branch.
At present, Smt. Tara Sahu has opened more than 4,500 bank accounts and provides doorstep services in Nandini Khurdni and six nearby villages, including cash deposits and withdrawals, opening new accounts, electricity bill payments, crop insurance applications, and services related to other government schemes.
In rural areas where bank branches are limited, Smt. Sahu has played a vital role by delivering banking facilities directly to people’s homes. Through the commission she earns on BC Sakhi transactions, she receives a monthly income of around Rs 11,000 rupees, which has strengthened her family’s financial condition. Smt. Tara Sahu’s journey is an exemplary example showcasing that with training, dedication, and consistency, rural women can empower not only themselves but also the entire community economically.
