This milestone was achieved under the special allocation of 15,000 PMAY units received from the Central Government, wherein a permanent house has been constructed for Mrs. Sodi Hungi, wife of the late Shri Masa Sodi, a resident of Oiras village in Gadiras Gram Panchayat. This marks the very first house completed under a special project designed exclusively for Naxal-affected families and surrendered Naxals in the state. The initiative is not only a testament to the government’s compassion but also a significant step in the rehabilitation process of victims of extremist violence.

Mrs. Sodi Hungi suffered the trauma of Naxal violence in 2005 when her husband, Shri Masa Sodi, was brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons on the suspicion of being a police informer. For years, her impoverished family was forced to live in a thatched hut vulnerable to leaking roofs during the rains and dangerous, venomous insects.

In the financial year 2024–25, upon being found eligible under the special project of PMAY (Gramin), Mrs. Sodi Hungi’s name was formally proposed by the Gadiras Gram Panchayat. After the approval, a total amount of Rs 1.35 lakh was disbursed to her in three installments. Owing to the government’s transparent processes, technical guidance, and consistent monitoring, the construction of the house was completed on 8 July 2025. Mrs. Hungi and her family have now moved into their new permanent residence.

Alongside the PMAY benefits, Mrs. Sodi Hungi has also been extended support through other government schemes, including the construction of a toilet under the Swachh Bharat Mission, payment for 90 days of labour under MGNREGA, and provision of a ration card, Ayushman card, and other social security benefits.

Expressing their gratitude, the sons of Mrs. Sodi Hungi stated that their family is now living a life of safety and dignity. “All of this has been made possible by the district administration, our Gram Panchayat, and the Prime Minister Awas Yojana. We are deeply thankful to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the Central Government for crafting such a sensitive and effective policy for the rehabilitation of Naxal victims and surrendered Naxals,” they said.

The construction of houses under this special project marks a concrete step towards the rehabilitation of families affected by Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. On the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Central Government has approved a special allocation of 15,000 PMAY units for Naxal-affected and surrendered individuals. The construction of these homes is progressing at a rapid pace. In Sukma district, the housing project is being implemented swiftly under the guidance of Collector Shri Devesh Kumar Dhruv.
