KORBA  : Acquisition of land in Khamharia 40 years ago, now eviction is being attempted: Kisan Sabha protested, demand for return of land*

Korba. The land was acquired 40 years ago in village Khamharia under SECL Kusmunda area, but the affected farmer families were neither compensated nor given rehabilitation facilities and many employment cases are still pending. For many generations, farmers are still occupying their land and earning their living by farming. Now the SECL Kusmunda management is trying to forcibly evict them. The Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha, affiliated to the All India Kisan Sabha, protested against this eviction attempt, calling it an unjust action against the farmers and demanded return of the farmers' land to the original farmers along with immediate removal of the ban imposed on agricultural work. A memorandum in this regard has been submitted to the Kusmunda General Manager. A copy of the memorandum has also been given to the Chief Minister and the district administration, demanding appropriate intervention.
District President of Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha Jawahar Singh Kanwar and Secretary Prashant Jha said that the non-mining of land acquired 40 years ago and not being used by SECL for any work, it is clear that SECL acquired more land than their necessity. They have hoarded the land and deprived thousands of farmer families of their livelihood in this area by grabbing their land at throwaway prices. This is a clear case of duping and cheating the farmers and for this criminal action should be taken against SECL.

Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha leader Deepak Sahu has said that the acquisition, done 40 years ago, has no importance today due to non-use of the acquired land and the efforts being made to evict the villagers are illegal. Now SECL is trying to use the land for non-mining purpose. Due to the expansion of mining projects, the people of dozens of villages have been evicted. Fear has arisen. Kisan Sabha will launch a big movement by organizing the people of these affected villages.
Sumendra Singh Thakral, Rajiv Yadav, Lalit Patel, Golu Yadav, Premlal, Sunita, Savitri, Heera, Hem Bai, Baby, Nohar Kunwar, Jahila, Ganga, Sakoon were prominently present in handing over the memorandum.
