While considering the limitless possibilities for encouraging the commercial use of trees in Chhattisgarh, the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has announced the “Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana”. Under this scheme, commercial tree plantation is to be carried out on the land of farmers at their consent to increase their income. Preparations of the Forest Department for implementing Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana are in full swing. 

It is noteworthy that under the Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana, all the willing land owners of all categories will be eligible. Besides them, all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions of the government that are willing to grow trees on their own land will be eligible. Similarly, private educational institutions, private trusts, non-governmental organizations, Panchayats, and land contract holders, that are willing to conduct plantation on their lands will be eligible. Under this scheme, 100 percent financial assistance is provided for conducting tree plantation on up to 5 acres of land, and 50 percent financial assistance is provided for conducting tree plantation on more than 5 acres of land. Under the scheme, farmers are being encouraged the cultivation of mainly 5 tree species. These include tissue culture bamboo, clonal Nilgiri, Melia dubia, tissue culture Sagon, and white sandalwood. 

The main objective of Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana is to encourage commercial tree plantation in the state. It also aims to ensure a strengthened market arrangement for the purchase of forest produce at definite support prices by organizations and private companies.

In this regard, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force Mr. Sanjay Shukla said that 12 species will be planted on 30 thousand acres of land. A goal has been set to plant clonal Eucalyptus on 17 thousand 182 acres, root shoot teak on 6 thousand 456 acres, tissue culture on 2 thousand 617 acres, sandalwood on 1 thousand 462 acres, Melia dubia on 834 acres, bamboo on 737 acres, tissue culture bamboo on 607 acres, red sandalwood on 126 acres, amla on 43 acres, Khamar on 40 acres, Sheesham on 20 acres, and Mahaneem on 20 acres of land.
