 National Tribal Dance Festival :Festival to be organised at Science College from November 01 to 03


Event will showcase a glimpse of the food, customs, crafts style, and dance form of the tribes of the country and abroad

Tribes living in forests, away from the influence of modernity, have their own rich tribal culture and tradition.  Different tribes also have their own festivals, folk dances and songs. To recognize the art and culture of these tribal groups, the National Tribal Dance Festival is being organized under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr.Bhupesh Baghel from November 1 to 3 on the occasion of the 23rd foundation day of Chhattisgarh state. This is the third time that the National Tribal Dance Festival is to be held in the state. The festival will be organized at Science College ground in Raipur.

42 types of tribes living in Chhattisgarh 
The state of Chhattisgarh is blessed with natural resources. About 44% of land cover in Chhattisgarh is dominated by forests and the tribal population accounts for 31% of its total population. 42 types of tribes reside in the state. This festival helps the tribal artists to showcase their tribal art forms.
Providing a platform for cultural exchange among the tribal communities

This festival will enable cultural and artistic sharing between tribal artists hailing from different countries and civilizations at the national/international levels. Moreover, these communities will also become aware of each other’s unique lifestyles, cultures, and food habits. This endeavour is proving to be very beneficial not only for Chhattisgarh but for the cultural interaction of tribal communities worldwide. 

1500 tribal artists will participate, hailing from India and other 9 countries

In this event, the teams from the tribal communities of all the states and union territories of India along with those of 9 countries will participate. In this event, about 1500 tribal artists will perform, out of which 1400 artists will be from various states and union territories of India and the remaining 100 will be from other countries. The tribal artists hailing from Mozambique, Mongolia, Tonga, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Serbia, New Zealand, and Egypt will perform at the festival.

Artists hailing from other countries will showcase their tribal culture

The National Tribal Dance Festival was organized for the first time in Chhattisgarh in the year 2019 from December 27 to 29. A total of 1,262 artists participated in this festival. These included 59 tribal artists from 06 countries. In this, artists from different states of India along with Sri Lanka, Uganda, Maldives, Thailand, Bangladesh and Belarus showcased their country’s culture through dance form.

The National Tribal Dance Festival for the year 2021 was organized from October 28 to November 01. A total of 1,149 artists participated in this festival. These included 60 tribal artists from 07 countries. Artists from Switzerland, Mali, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Uganda and Uzbekistan participated in this festival.

This year the National Tribal Dance Festival 2022 will be organized from November 01 to 03. A total of 1500 tribal artists will participate in this festival. 100 tribal artists from 09 countries will reach to participate in this festival. Tribal artists from Mozambique, Mongolia, Tonga, Russia, Indonesia, Maldives, Serbia, New Zealand and Egypt are going to perform in the event.
Dance festival will be held on the theme of 'harvesting’ and ‘tribal traditions and customs'

This time two themes have been kept in the National Tribal Dance Festival. The first theme is 'Tribal Dances on Harvesting' and the second theme is 'Tribal Traditions and Customs'. Prizes will be given to the best-performing participants to encourage the winners.

Excellent performances will attract a total prize of Rs.20 lakhs
The winners will be felicitated with prizes in the National Tribal Dance Festival to encourage them. Prizes worth Rs. 20 lakh will be distributed to the winners. Cash prizes worth Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh will be awarded to the first, second, and third positions.

Efforts are being made to preserve and promote tribal art, culture and heritage

It is worth mentioning that since the government has been made under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr.Bhupesh Baghel, the event of the National Tribal Dance Festival is being organized with the noble aim of preserving and promoting the art and culture of tribal communities in Chhattisgarh and to provide a platform for cultural exchange among the tribal communities of various states and nations. In continuation of these efforts, the state song was recognized in Chhattisgarh. To promote traditional sports of the state, the ‘Chhattisgarhiya Olympics’, a sporting event is being organized at the village level.
