Fidayeen' attack on army camp in Rajouri: 3 soldiers, 2 terrorists killed

Jammu, (PTI) Two terrorists carried out a 'fidayeen' attack on an Army camp in Jammu's Rajouri district in the early hours of Thursday, killing three soldiers. Both attackers were gunned down in the four-hour firefight that followed.

"In the early hours on Thursday, alert sentries of the Indian Army post at Parghal, in Rajouri district detected suspicious persons approaching their post taking advantage of the inclement weather and dense foliage," PRO (defence) Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand said.

He said the sentries challenged the two terrorists who lobbed grenades while attempting to gain entry inside the post. However, alert troops cordoned the area and engaged them in a firefight thereby pinning them, he said.

Anand further said in the ensuing gunfight, the two terrorists were neutralised. Six soldiers of Indian Army were injured in the operation and of them, three bravehearts succumbed to injuries while repulsing the suicide attack, he said.

The army personnel killed were subedar Rajendra Prasad (of Maligoven village in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district), rifleman Lakshmanan D (of T Pudupatti village in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu) and rifleman Manoj Kumar (of Shahjahanpur village in Haryana's Faridabad), he said.

The Indian Army salutes the bravehearts for their supreme sacrifice in line of duty, upholding the highest tradition of the force. The nation will always remain indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty, he said.

According to officials and eyewitnesses, the first gunshot was heard around 2 am when the terrorists attempted to breach the external fence of the camp located at Paragal, 185 km from here.

The attack, which came four days ahead of Independence Day, marks the return of 'fidayeen' (suicide attackers) to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir after more than three years.

The last such attack took place on February 14, 2019 at Lethpora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

In Thursday's attack, the two 'fidayeen', believed to be from the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed, tried to sneak into the camp but were neutralised, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh told PTI.

According to eyewitnesses, the last gunshot was heard around 6.10 am.

Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, who heads the Jammu zone, said more forces were sent to the Army camp located around six km from the Darhal police station. He said a search and combing operation was underway.

Security forces and the police had been put on alert following intelligence inputs on suspected movement of terrorists in the Rajouri belt, prompting them to launch a combing operation in Darhal and Nowshera belt on Wednesday.

Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists had earlier attempted to carry out a 'fidayeen' attack on April 22 in Jammu when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to be in town.

However, the two terrorists were killed in a chance encounter with the CISF near the Sunjawan Army camp. An officer of the paramilitary force was also killed.

On May 8, a terrorist was killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Laam area of Rajouri district. There were several blasts in Rajouri district in April and May.

Police had busted two modules of the LeT instrumental in carrying out terror acts and ferrying drone-dropped weapons from Pakistan to the Kashmir valley. They arrested five members of two terror modules.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and vowed to deal with terrorists and their supporters in a befitting manner.

In a tweet, he said, "Strongly condemn despicable terrorist attack in Rajouri; tributes to brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the bravehearts martyred in the attack. We shall deal with evil designs of terrorists and their backers in a befitting manner.

Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar CM for 8th time today

Nitish Kumar will take oath as Bihar’s chief minister for the 8th time today (Wednesday) afternoon at 2pm, after leaving BJP on Tuesday and forming new “Grand Alliance” with Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other Opposition parties. Tejashwi Yadav will take oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

After meeting Bihar Governor, Nitish said, “Seven parties including 164 MLAs along with independent MLA in our Mahagathbandhan,” at a joint presser with RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Nitish Kumar ended his alliance with the BJP National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and rejoined hands with RJD on a day of rapidly changing political developments in Bihar.

According to a tweet by Kumar’s new alliance partner RJD, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 2 pm at Raj Bhavan.

“The swearing-in ceremony of Honorable Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at Raj Bhavan,” the party said in a tweet from its official handle.

While the RJD tweet did not mention any names, it is widely expected that Nitish Kumar would be the chief minister while Tejashwi Yadav would become his deputy.

In a day of fast-paced political developments, Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar twice met Governor Phagu Chauhan, first to hand over his resignation as NDA chief minister and then after being elected leader of the RJD-led `Mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) to stake a claim for the top job in the state once again.

Kumar said he submitted a list of 164 MLAs to the governor who will decide when the oath-taking can take place. The effective strength of the state Assembly is 242 and the magic figure is 122.

Notably, it will be the eighth time when Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar.

Meanwhile, BJP lashed out at Nitish Kumar over his decision and said he had “disrespected the mandate given by the people of Bihar”.

Nitish Kumar, who talked to the media with Tejashwi Yadav, said they have the support of seven parties in Mahagathbandhan.

Tejashwi Yadav attacked the BJP and claimed the party does not have an alliance partner across the Hindi heartland.

He accused BJP of trying to destroy parties with whom it forms alliances.

“Across the Hindi heartland, BJP does not have any alliance partner. History shows that the BJP destroys the parties with whom it forms alliances. We did see that happening in Punjab and Maharashtra,” he said.

He also referred to the remarks of BJP president JP Nadda.

“JP Nadda said they will end regional parties. BJP knows only to intimidate and buy people. All of us wanted the BJP’s agenda shouldn’t be implemented in Bihar, we all know Laluji stopped the ‘Rath’ of Advaniji, and we won’t relent at any cost,” Yadav said.

Kumar, who was a long-time BJP ally before snapping ties in 2013 and again joining hands in 2017, said that there was a unanimous decision in the party meeting in the morning “to break off ties”.

JD-U and BJP had fought the 2020 assembly polls together and Nitish Kumar was made the chief minister of the alliance though the BJP had won more seats. Nitish Kumar’s ties with BJP stretched to over two decades and he was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1996.

JD-U leaders indicated that factors including the developments related to the exit of RCP Singh from the party had soured the ties with BJP. JD-U leaders have also been chaffing at the role of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan during the 2020 assembly polls and have indicated that his putting up candidates from seats contested by the party had damaged it.

JD-U and RJD had fought the 2015 Bihar polls together. JD-U has 45 and the RJD has 79 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar assembly.

JD-U is the third major ally to leave the BJP in the past over three years after Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal.

Woman, lover kill her teenage son in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 10 (PTI) A widow and her lover were arrested for allegedly killing her teenage son for opposing their relationship, police said Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vinit Jaiswal said Munesh and her lover Satendra killed the 16-year-old Ashish in the early hours of Monday and dumped his body in a tubewell.

Police said the body was later recovered.

Police said the accused told them they killed Ashish as he was against their relationship.

Police said the woman developed a relationship with Satendra after her husband died.

JD-U MLAs, MPs to meet today amid speculations of rift with BJP

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called for a meeting of JD-U MLAs and MPs today (Tuesday) at 11 am amid speculation of a rift with ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Simultaneously, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) convened a meeting to discuss political developments in Bihar.

Earlier on Monday, the Congress party also convened a meeting of its legislature party in Bihar to contemplate the evolving political scenario in the state.

The rumours of a possible spilt between JD-U and BJP escalated after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar skipped the NITI Aayog meeting.

While talking to the mediapersons in Patna, JD-U National President Lalan Singh said, “I read in the newspapers that RCP Singh has said that he was told by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that his name had been approved for ministership.”

“He claimed to have taken oath after informing the CM. But this only confirms what we have been accusing RCP Singh of,” the JD-U national president added.

“Our charge is that RCP Singh became a minister as per his own free will. He has dropped the name of Shah. Does Shah belong to our party? Can the BJP decide which JD-U leader will become a minister,” Lalan questioned.

Earlier on Sunday, Nitish Kumar skipped the NITI Aayog meeting held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while RCP Singh announced his exit from the party after JD-U sought a reply on corruption allegations against him on Saturday.

Congress to launch 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Sept 7

New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday announced it will launch from September 7 a Kanyakumari to Kashmir 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in which party workers and leaders including Rahul Gandhi will participate.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that on this day, 80 years ago the Indian National Congress under the leadership and inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement that won the country freedom five years later.

"Today the Indian National Congress announces the launch of its Kanyakumari to Kashmir Bharat Jodo Yatra from September 7, 2022," he said in a statement.

This is a padayatra (foot march)covering 12 states and two Union Territories, Ramesh said, adding it will be about 3,500-km long and will be completed in about 150 days.

Congress workers and leaders including Rahul Gandhi will participate in the yatra, Ramesh said.

The Congress appeals to all wanting to be part of an gigantic national endeavour to provide an alternative to the politics of fear, bigotry and prejudice and to the economics of livelihood destruction, increasing unemployment and growing inequalities, to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said.

In a tweet, Ramesh attacked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, asking questions about the role it played when Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India movement.

"It was on the sidelines dissociating itself from the mass movement. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee took no part while Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Azad, Prasad, Pant and many others were jailed," he said.

Next Vice President: EC issues certificate of election to Dhankhar

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey signed the "Certification of the Election" of Dhankar.

A signed copy of the certificate was handed over to the Union Home Secretary by senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma and Narendra N Butolia, senior Principal Secretary in the EC, the poll panel said.

The signed copy will be read out at the time of oath taking ceremony of the new vice president on August 11.

The term of incumbent M Venkaiah Naidu ends on August 10.

Dhankhar won with a huge vote share of 74.36 per cent, the highest in the last six vice-presidential elections, with 528 votes against Alva's 182 votes.

National Seminar on 'Partition of India 1947 and Contribution of Sikhs in Freedom Struggle' was organized at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi today.

Principal Prof. Jaswinder Singh formally started the programme by welcoming the guests.

Sardar Tarlochan Singh (Chairman, Managing Committee, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College) told the need to observe and think about both partition and independence from different point of view. On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, especially the younger generation was urged for continuous remembrance and evaluation of both the historical events.

The keynote speaker of the programme Dr. Raghuvendra Tanwar (Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi) highlighted the horrors of partition, various misconceptions related to it and it's socio-political consequences and damage to human values. India's civilization - culture has been described as the basic element in determining the nature of this nation. Dr. Mohinder Singh made a digital presentation on the contribution of Sikhs in independence and highlighted the condition of Sikhs in the latter half of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and their contribution by quoting from various historical books. Recalling the contribution of Sikhs in the freedom struggle, Dr. Jaspal Singh gave examples of Gadar movement, Gadar letters and many literary works, newspapers.

Pro. Seema Bawa, famous painters Satish Gujral, S.L. Parashar and P.N. Made a digital presentation with facts about the pain and horror of Partition through rare pictures of Mago.

Kolkata, Aug 5 (PTI) The ED Friday prayed for 14 days' judicial remand of former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and his associate Arpita Mukherjee before a special PMLA court here in connection with its probe into the money trail in the School Service Commission appointments scam.

The ED counsel also prayed for the court's permission to interrogate the two accused in the correctional home over new revelations in the case.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) special court judge, Jibon Kumar Sadhu reserved his order after hearing all the parties in the case.

Chatterjee and Mukherjee have been in ED remand since their arrest on July 23 in connection with the agency's investigation into the alleged money trail involved in illegal appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff in West Bengal government sponsored and aided schools.

Praying for Chatterjee's bail, his lawyer submitted that he is an ordinary person now and will not abscond.

"He is not an influential person anymore and is also willing to consider giving up his MLAship," Chatterjee's lawyer said.

Chatterjee has been relieved of his ministerial duties by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while Trinamool Congress has removed him from all posts he held in the party.

The ED has claimed that out of the 15 days that Chatterjee has been in its custody, at least two days were wasted owing to his admission to the state-run SSKM hospital here.

Chatterjee was sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical checkup on the order of Calcutta High Court and the doctors there had said he did not require any immediate intervention.

The ED has claimed to have recovered Rs 49.8 crore in cash, a huge quantity of jewellery and gold bars from flats owned by Mukherjee, besides documents of properties and of a company joint held by the two accused.

The SAARC Journalists Forum, India Chapter will launch an awareness campaign in the coming times to improve the declining standard of journalism day by day.

The duties of the media were nowhere fixed, but the expectation has always been that the news should be shown to those which concern the people, so that the people are benefited.

In a 2008 interview to Live Mint, Uday shankar, the then head of Star India, in response to a question on the declining level of journalism, said, “We need to distinguish between two things.

The first is whether such news is being deliberately shown or is being done because of lack of ability and ignorance. I think both these challenges exist in the Indian news media.Not just on TV, but also in print.”

The SAARC Journalist Forum is emerging as a large organization of South Asian countries, in such a way, our responsibility is also increasing day by day. We will try that we will play our successful role in keeping journalism a journalism of concern.

Mehbooba's new Twitter display pic shows tricolour, old J&K flag

Srinagar :(PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday put a new Twitter display picture that shows her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the national flag and the now-derecognised flag of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his Mann ki Baat radio broadcast this Sunday, PM Modi had said the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is turning into a mass movement and urged people to put 'tiranga' as the profile picture of their social media accounts between August 2 and 15.

Putting the new display picture, Mehbooba said the flag of Jammu and Kashmir might have been "snatched", but it cannot be erased from the collective conscience of the people.

The photograph was taken at a rally addressed by the prime minister during his Kashmir visit in November 2015 when Mufti Sayeed was chief minister of the erstwhile state.

"Changed my dp since a flag is a matter of joy & pride. For us our state flag was irreversibly linked to the Indian flag. It was snatched thus breaking away the link. You may have robbed us of our flag but cant erase it from our collective conscience," Mehbooba tweeted.

The Twitter post by the former chief minister also comes two days ahead of the third anniversary of revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

With the revocation of the special status, the Jammu and Kashmir flag was also derecognised.

ED being used to 'harass' opposition parties: Cong

New Delhi : (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the Enforcement Directorate has become a "tool" in the hands of the BJP-led Centre to "destroy" the Opposition parties.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also said that the party was not being allowed to raise the issue of alleged "misuse" of the ED by the Centre in Parliament.

Chowdhury's remarks came a day after the ED raided the head office of the Congress party-owned National Herald newspaper here and other locations as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation.

He said Congress leaders in Lok Sabha had given three adjournment motion notices to raise the issue of alleged "misuse" of the ED.

"The ruling party is not allowing us to raise this issue. Why is the government scared of us putting our point in Parliament," he told reporters.

Chowdhury had tried to raise the issue of investigation into the National Herald newspaper in Lok Sabha, but was disallowed by the chair.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm amid protests by Opposition members over various issues, including raids at the premises of National Herald newspaper in connection with a money laundering investigation.

Chowdhury alleged that ED was being used to "tarnish" the image of the Congress and of the newspaper that played a key role in the national movement.

"Today, the voice of freedom struggle, the National Herald, its image is being tarnished with an ill-intent. The ED is being misused and a conspiracy has been hatched against us. He said the Congress and all other Opposition parties are being harassed and Opposition governments are being destabilised through the misuse of ED," the Congress leader said.

"The ED has become a tool in the hands of the government to destroy Opposition parties and destabilise the state governments of the Opposition. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi does not just want Congress-mukt Bharat but Opposition-mukt Bharat. We wanted two minutes to put forward this but were not allowed," he said.

The Congress on Tuesday had dubbed the ED raids on National Herald office here as "vendetta politics" and said it will not be cowed by such actions and will continue to expose failures of the government.

Jashpur,very well known for its natural beauty,tribal culture ,tea and cashew cultivation has proved it's mettle in the agrarian sector by successfully cultivating 660 tonnes of pears in the region. Along with Delhi, The pears of Jashpur are also being purchased in various states of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi. It is worth mentioning that the farmers of the remote areas of Jashpur are also cultivating tea, cashew, tomatoes, chillies, potatoes in their fields in addition to greens and vegetables in their fields. Pear cultivation is being done on a large scale in the plateau areas of the district. The farmers of the region are earning substantial profits from this cultivation. In Jashpur district, about 660 metric tonnes of pears are being produced in 750 hectares, which is benefitting more than 17 hundred farmers involved in pear cultivation. There is an unprecedented change in the lives of numerous farmers of the region who have been successfully earning livelihood with pear cultivation.

The cultivation of tea in Balachhapar of Jashpur district and the cultivation of papaya in Darbha of Bastar are already making headlines all over the country today. Many farmers have started production of pears by taking advantage of the Pear Area Extension Scheme of the Horticulture Department, one of them is Mr. Virendra Kujur, a farmer who has planted 250 pear trees in his farm and is earning substantial livelihood. Mr. Virendra informs that in the year 2021-2022, he earned about Rs. 3 lakhs from pear production . He further informs that he has got the direct benefit of the government's schemes, which has provided assistance in increasing his income, he is working continuously under the guidance of agricultural scientists and wants to expand this work even further.

On the intention of the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, continuous work is being done to promote income-oriented activities of production and encourage farmers in the areas related to agriculture, horticulture and forestry in the state. Under the ambitious agricultural centric Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa, Bari schemes of Chhattisgarh government, production of vegetables and fruits based on local climate is also being promoted in the villages. With the aim of bringing change in the economic condition and standard of living of the village, villagers and farmers, such schemes are being implemented to push Chhattisgarh's agricultural sector towards growth and to fill the pockets of the farmers.

RS: Cong, Shiv Sena seek to raise misuse of probe agencies, disallowed by chairman

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) The Congress and the Shiv Sena on Wednesday tried to raise the issue of alleged misuse of central investigating agencies by the government in the Rajya Sabha but Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu disallowed them from doing so.

Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader M Mallikarjun Kharge and his colleague Deepender Singh Hooda, Shiv Sena's Priyanka Chaturvedi and AAP's Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha gave notices under rule 267 but they were not admitted.

"You know my position. These are all notices not worth to be taken up under 267," Naidu said.

Rule 267 provides for setting aside the business of the day to take up discussion on the issue being raised in such notice.

Kharge charged the BJP-led government of misusing the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax to target political rivals.

The government is using the investigating agencies with a vengeance as part of a plan to target political opponents as well as bring down democratically elected state governments, he alleged seeking a discussion.

"I am not admitting it," Naidu said.

The notice by Congress leaders came a day after the ED raided the head office of the National Herald newspaper here and 11 other locations as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation. The ED had earlier questioned Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and party leader Rahul Gandhi in the case.

Chaturvedi said her party leader and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut was arrested by the ED without informing the chairman.

"As per rule 220 of rule book, they should have kept you informed. Were they doing? Are they undermining your constitutional position," she asked Naidu.

She alleged that the country was moving towards ED-raaj without any accountability, which is worrying.

But her notice too wasn't admitted.

After rejecting the 267 notices, Naidu took up Zero Hour where MPs are allowed to make mention of public interest issues.

Santanu Sen of the Trinamool Congress raised the issue of falling levels of women literacy while Rajni Ashokrao Patil of the Congress highlighted the drought-like situation in parts of Maharashtra.

DMK's Vaiko raised the issue of a Chinese military survey ship visiting a strategic port in crisis-hit Sri Lanka later this month.

ED raids National Herald assets in Delhi

New Delhi : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided a dozen locations including the head office of the Congress party-owned National Herald newspaper here as part of an ongoing money laundering probe, officials said.

They said the searches are being carried out under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to "gather additional evidences with regard to the trail of funds".

Officers of the federal agency also searched the 'Herald House' office located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, ITO in central Delhi.

The address is registered in the name of Associated Journals Ltd which publishes the newspaper.

The ED has recently undertaken the high-profile questioning of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her MP son Rahul Gandhi in this case apart from few other Congress politicians.

AP gas leak: Affected workers stable, says apparel unit

Visakhapatnam, Aug 3 (PTI) Workers of an apparel manufacturing unit in the Brandix Special Economic Zone at Atchyutapuram near here, who fell sick on August 2 night due to what was suspected to be a mysterious gas leak, were stable as they were being treated in different hospitals.

With the state government yet to issue a statement on the incident, the opposition parties lashed out at the former over its alleged failure to prevent such mishaps.

According to the latest count, some 95 workers fell sick with nausea and vomiting after they inhaled a pungent gas that filled the air at the manufacturing unit on Tuesday night.

They were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Anakapalli, Atchyutapuram and Visakhapatnam.

It was a second such incident in two months after the one on June 3 in the same place where more than 300 women workers fell unconscious after complaining of eyesore, nausea and vomiting.

The state government has not made public the report submitted by a team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad on the June 3 gas leak.

The report of an official committee, headed by the Anakapalli district Joint Collector, was also not revealed.

On June 3, it was suspected that ammonia gas leaked from a nearby Porus Laboratories unit.

A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad visited the lab and conducted tests to determine the cause of the leak while the AP Pollution Control Board ordered closure of the lab.

The Porus lab was shut down for a few days after the mishap but soon resumed activities.

Subsequently, the APPCB as well as the government did not reveal the cause of the incident.

State Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath, under whose Anakapalli constituency the Brandix SEZ falls, did not respond to calls for clarification.

According to official sources, the minister has asked the district Collector P Ravi Subhash to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident and submit a report.

The Collector visited some hospitals and spoke to the victims about the medicare being provided.

Seeds Intimate Apparel India Private Ltd, where the two incidents occurred, said in a statement that the affected associates were in a stable condition following Tuesday night's incident.

A few of our associates complained of an unpleasant odour in the atmosphere and, as a result, some of them were taken to the closest hospital for medical precaution. The affected associates are in a stable condition, Seeds said in a statement.

Seeds said the safety and well-being of their associates was of utmost importance to it.

MLC and Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh alleged that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government was not waking up from its deep slumber though such mishaps were occurring repeatedly.

Two incidents in two months in the Brandix SEZ clearly exposed the failure of the government in taking corrective action. The Chief Minister is turning Visakhapatnam, known as city of destiny, into 'Vishadapatnam' (city of tragedy), Lokesh said in a statement.

BJP state president Somu Veerraju also came down heavily on the state government, saying its gross negligence was glaring. Has the government given up its responsibility of overseeing industrial safety, he questioned.
