President emphasizes on the right use of technical skills and knowledge in nation building

Raipur : The 14th convocation was a momentous day for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur on Friday. In a ceremony filled with pride and celebration, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu personally conferred gold medals to 12 talented students, honouring their remarkable academic achievements.
Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Minister of State Shri Tokhan Sahu also attended the convocation as special guests. During the NIT convocation today at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur, degrees were conferred upon 1,439 students who graduated, completed their postgraduate studies, or earned their PhDs in the 2023-24 academic year. This group included 1,044 students from the B.Tech. and B.Arch. programs, 225 from the MCA and M.Tech. programs, and 170 doctoral candidates.
In her address, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu emphasized that students are transitioning to an important new phase in their lives, having earned recognition through hard work and talent. She acknowledged the vital support from families and guidance from professors in their success. Addressing the convocation, President Smt Murmu said, “India's remarkable achievements in digital inclusion have astonished the world. Our nation possesses the potential and resources to demonstrate even more such successes. Institutions like NIT Raipur and enthusiastic youth like you should be eager to explore these possibilities and bring them to fruition.”
Smt. Murmu quoted anecdote of former President Dr Abdul Kalam, who earned fame by using science and technology for security and social welfare of the country.
In her convocation address, President Mrs. Murmu highlighted the India Semiconductor Mission, launched three years ago to establish the country as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. She emphasized the industry's significance for economic growth, national security, and technological self-reliance, noting that it offers numerous opportunities for young engineers in employment and startups. She praised the innovative enterprises created by talented engineers and expressed confidence that their efforts will contribute to building a developed India and enhancing the country’s global standing.
In his address at the convocation Governor Ramen Deka celebrated the historic occasion, recognizing the years of hard work and academic challenges they faced, the friendships they built, and the shared experiences that led them to this moment. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to all the students receiving their degrees.
“The whole world will be looking towards these students to use engineering and technology skills to solve unresolved global problems like climate change, poverty, global hunger, gender discrimination, unequal income, unemployment,” said Governor Deka.
During the convocation ceremony at the NIT, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai hailed President Smt. Draupadi Murmu's visit and expressed gratitude for the President's two-day commitment to supporting the talents and citizens of Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister congratulated all graduates, postgraduates, and PhD recipients, emphasizing that this day marks not only the attainment of degrees but also the beginning of their journey to contribute their knowledge and skills to the country and society.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Chhattisgarh is primarily an agriculture-based state, with many residents in villages and forests facing various deprivations. He emphasized that the knowledge and skills of graduates can significantly improve the lives of these underserved communities. He noted the state's rich natural resources and potential for industrial development, underscoring the importance of their contributions in this area. The Chief Minister reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047, stressing that achieving a developed Chhattisgarh is only possible with the active involvement of the graduates.
Chief Minister Shri Sai announced that India is on track to become the third-largest economy globally, with Chhattisgarh poised for significant economic growth. He highlighted the implementation of the new National Education Policy in the state, focusing on skill development alongside knowledge. This initiative aims to prepare a technically skilled and entrepreneurial youth generation. The government is modernizing 160 industrial training institutes and rapidly expanding transportation and communication networks. Chief Minister emphasized the potential of the youth to drive development in Chhattisgarh. The convocation also featured addresses from Dr Suresh Haware and Dr NV Ramana Rao, with gold medals awarded to top performers.
President Smt. Draupadi Murmu awarded gold medals to 11 engineering toppers at NIT for 2023. Among the recipients, Yash Bansal, the overall topper, received two gold medals for Computer Science and Engineering. Other winners included Ankit Mahobia - Bachelor of Architecture, Ishika Jain a Biomedical Engineering, Sibbhoo Kumar Singh from Biotechnology, Shikha Rai from Chemical Engineering, Muskan Agarwal from Civil Engineering, Shubham Agarwal from Electrical Engineering, Abhishek Kumar from Electronics and Communication Engineering, Disha Jain from Information Technology, Prakhar Jadhav from Meta and Materials Engineering and Priyanshu Kumar from Mining Engineering.
