Congress on Monday demanded from the Election Commission that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be stopped from campaigning because he called former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as corrupt

New Delhi. Congress on Monday demanded from the Election Commission that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be stopped from campaigning because he called former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as corrupt.

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Salman Kharshid, Rajeev Shukla met the Election Commission on Monday evening and lodged a complaint against Modi.

Singhvi told reporters outside the EC headquarters, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks about Rajiv Gandhi are of serious nature, he used shameful language, which can not be repeated again."

He said, "We have demanded the commission officials that Modi should be banned from campaigning now in this election."

Modi had said on Saturday in a rally at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, attacking Congress President Rahul Gandhi. "Your father's court called him Mr Kahl, but his life ended in the form of corrupt No. 1."
