Delhi court grants interim bail to former WFI chief in sexual harassment case
New Delhi: Brij Bhushan Singh, a member of parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the former Wrestling Chief of India, was granted interim bail on Tuesday by a court on Rouse Avenue in Delhi in connection with sexual harassment charges made by some of India's leading female wrestlers.
Former Assistant Secretary of Singh Vinod Tomar was also granted interim release by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal.
Advocate Rajeev Mohan, who is representing the accused, told the court that he is filing bail bonds because the charge sheet filed before the arrest.
However, Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava for Delhi Police said that “We (Delhi Police) have not arrested him. We leave it to my lord. Condition must be there... I oppose it with condition that he shouldn't influence witness.”
ACMM Jaspal has scheduled Thursday as the day to hear arguments on the regular bail plea.
The court had on July 7 summoned Singh and Tomar in the case.
Six female wrestlers have accused Singh of engaging in sexual harassment and intimidation; the court has taken notice of the charge sheet filed in the case.
Charges under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (making sexually coloured remarks), and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were filed against accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by the Delhi Police before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahima Rai of Rouse Avenue Courts.
Tomar is accused of breaking the law under the IPC Sections 109 (abetting officer), 354, 354A, and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The indictment reportedly includes the testimony of almost 200 individuals.
In the FIR registered at Connaught Place police station, it has been alleged by the six adult grapplers that Singh allegedly attempted to coerce one athlete into sexual acts by offering to provide her with “supplements”, invited another wrestler to his bed and hugging her, as well as assaulting and inappropriately touching other athletes.—Inputs from Agencies

Seema, Sachin Faked Names For Nepal Hotel Stay
New Delhi: Seema Haider, the Pakistani woman who illegally crossed the border and entered India via Nepal stayed with her Indian partner, Sachin Meena at a hotel in Nepal for almost a week.
The couple stayed in a Hotel in the month of March this year and booked the room under fake names, the owner of the hotel confirmed ANI.
In an exclusive interaction with ANI at Kathmandu, the hotel owner Ganesh Roka Magar revealed that the couple stayed in the room most of the time during their stay.
“They came to my hotel in March (2023) and stayed for seven-eight days and then checked out of the hotel,” the owner of New Vinayak Rolpa Jaljala Rukmeli Guest House said.
According to the hotel owner, the couple registered at the hotel under a fake name and stayed inside their room for the whole time.
“Most of the time they used to stay in the room... They used to go out of the Hotel in the morning and evening but they would return within a very short time because our hotel is usually closed after 9:30-10 pm daily and they used to come two hours early... They mostly use to have fruits brought from outside and here in the hotel they only ordered Nepali Veg Thali and didn’t go out that frequently,” Roka Magar recalled. “At first Sachin came here (at the hotel) booked the room and said that his wife is enroute and Seema came the following day and then they stayed for about 7 days. While checking out the hotel, it was Seema who checked out first and then Sachin left on the following day...Only the two had come, they didn't have the children with them...,” Roka Magar told ANI.
The hotel owner while showing the entry logbook to ANI said, “When I saw in the news then I realised that they’re Sachin and Seema as they made their entry under the name 'Shivansh' .”
"They had made the payment in cash in Indian currency notes," he added.
Seema Haider had crossed over to India to live with Sachin Meena whom she befriended via an online game. The couple started living together in Greater Noida.
However, Haider was arrested on July 4 for illegally entering India without a visa, while Meena was put behind bars for sheltering the illegal immigrants.
The Indian officials are investigating who assisted her in arriving in India from Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the central intelligence agencies have sought a report from Sashastra Seema Bal and Uttar Pradesh police on Seema Haider who travelled through Nepal to reach Noida from Pakistan’s Karachi.
A senior official confirmed that the agencies got alerted about Seema Haider, who illegally crossed into India to marry and live with her Indian partner, they asked detailed report from SSB and the UP police.
Haider had crossed over to India to live with Sachin Meena whom she befriended via an online game.
The Uttar Pradesh DGP office issued a brief note stated, "...Two video cassettes, four mobile phones, five Pakistan-authorised passports, one unused passport with incomplete name and address & ID card recovered from Seema Haider. Investigation of the same is underway. She, along with her four children, entered India illegally and district police is carrying out an investigation in this regard."
"Intelligence agencies have asked a report from SSB and the UP police to find out how she managed to cross over without being verified by police personnel at the border. We have also demanded a report from the UP police as she entered to India via UP border and stayed with her partner for many days," the official said.
The official further added that they are verifying the claims about her journey she made in TV interviews and they are also finding out who assisted her in arriving in India from Pakistan.

The Victoria Terminus railway station in Bombay, India, is now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The station underwent a name change in 1996 to honor the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Historically, Victoria Terminus was designed by British architect Frederick William Stevens and was completed in 1887. It served as the headquarters of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway (GIPR) and played a crucial role in the development of Bombay as a major trade and transportation hub during British colonial rule.
The architectural style of Victoria Terminus is a blend of Victorian Gothic Revival and traditional Indian architectural elements. It features turrets, spires, stained glass windows, and intricate stone carvings, making it a remarkable landmark in Bombay.
Over the years, the station has undergone several renovations and expansions to accommodate the growing number of passengers. However, the original structure and its distinctive features have been preserved.
Today, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus remains one of the busiest railway stations in India and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It serves as a major transportation hub, connecting various parts of India through an extensive railway network. The station continues to be an architectural marvel, attracting tourists and commuters alike.
Inside the station, there are numerous platforms, ticket counters, waiting areas, and amenities for passengers. The iconic central dome, which serves as the main entrance, is a prominent feature that draws attention.

Amid skyrocketing prices of tomatoes across the country, a farmer in Maharashtra’s Pune district claimed to have earned more than Rs 2.8 crore by selling tomatoes.
Ishwar Gayakar (36) and his wife, who hails from Pune’s Junnar taluka, do not intend to stop at this. The farmer couple has set a target to earn Rs 3.5 crore with a stock of around 4000 crates of tomatoes available with him. Speaking about his hard work throughout the years, Ishwar Gaikar said, “This is not something I have earned in one day. I have been cultivating tomatoes on my 12-acre farm for the last six-seven years now. I have also incurred losses several times but I have never left my hopes. In 2021, I had made a loss of rupees 18-20 lakhs but I did not stop.”
Speaking about his profits, this year, Gaikar said, “This year, I have cultivated tomatoes on 12 acres and till today, I have sold around 17000 crates priced between Rs 770 to Rs 2311 per crate. So in total, I have earned Rs 2.8 crore till now.”
“I still have a stock of around 3000 to 4000 crates of tomatoes at my farm. So if you calculate, my total earnings this year would go up to around Rs 3.5 crore,” he added.
Gaikar said that his family is happy with his success. Thanking his wife who also works with him at the farm and the blessing of his parents and grandparents, he said, “I feel this success has come to me because of the blessings of my parents, grandparents and hard work of my wife who works with me in the farm. Everyone in my family is happy with the price we got for our tomatoes.”
Gaikar shared that he thought that he would get around 30 rupees per kg by selling tomatoes but his fortunes turned this season.
“Before this season, I had in my mind that I would get around 30 rupees per kg for the price of tomatoes, but it turned out to be a bumper lottery for me this time,” he said.
Gaykar is farming since 2005. He took over farming from his father and now he works at his farm with his wife. Earlier, they use to cultivate tomatoes on only 1 acre of land. Later with the availability of labour from 2017, he is cultivating tomatoes on 12 acres. Other than tomatoes, Gaykar also cultivates onions and flowers in respective seasons.
Earlier, in a relief for consumers, who were forced to go off tomatoes after their prices went through the roof across the country, the Centre on Sunday reduced the wholesale price of tomatoes from Rs 90 to Rs 80 per kg.
According to an official release, after re-assessing the current situation of the market, the Centre decided to revise the price of tomatoes. The changes in the price will be executed from July 16, Sunday, in Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur and Arrah through the National Agriculture Cooperation Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Consumer Cooperation Federation (NCCF).
It will be expanded to more cities depending upon the prevailing market price at the current locations. The rates of tomatoes were previously revised on July 14 to Rs 90 per kg.

Decades old flood record broken in Delhi, life in trouble.

New Delhi, July 14, 2023 (Agency). Due to the severe floods in the Yamuna river in Delhi and NCR, many areas have been cut off due to large-scale flooding of residential areas.
After many decades, the danger has increased due to flood water filling Kashmiri Gate Bus Stand, Ring Road and residential areas in the stomach of Yamuna. The government has issued an alert regarding this.
Schools, colleges and other similar institutions have been closed in Delhi and NCR. People living in Yamuna Khadar have been given shelter in nearby public places and high dams.
The Delhi government has said that thousands of people living in the flood-affected areas of the Yamuna river in the city have been shifted to temporary shelters at safer places and are being provided food and water.
Delhi government's water minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that due to rise in the water level of Yamuna in Delhi, low-lying areas have been flooded. People affected by the rising water level have been shifted to East, North, Northeast, South East Central and Shahdara districts. More than 2700 tents have been arranged here for these people. He said that due to release of huge amount of water from Hathnikund in Haryana, the water level of Yamuna has increased.
Mr Bhardwaj said maximum number of tents have been set up in East district 1,700, North East Delhi district 280, Shahdara 170, Central 150 and South East district 384 among others to provide shelter to evacuees from low-lying areas of Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting on Tuesday. The Yamuna river is currently flowing above the danger mark. Its water level had reached 205.33 meters on Monday evening.
On the other hand, keeping in view the security, the movement of trains going from Old Delhi to Ghaziabad via Shahdara has been stopped from 6 am on Tuesday. Deepak Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway said that Loha Pul has been temporarily closed due to continuous rising water level in Yamuna.L.S.

Amid Rising Prices, Centre To Source Tomatoes From Andhra, K'taka, Maharashtra
New Delhi: Amid spiralling prices of tomatoes across the country due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from where bulk of supplies arrive, the Centre has sought procurement of tomatoes from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Tomato stocks will be distributed through retail outlets at discounted prices to the consumers in Delhi-NCR region by Friday, Consumer Affairs Ministry officials said. The Ministry has directed the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) to immediately procure tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, for simultaneous distribution in major consumption centres where retail prices have recorded maximum increase in the last one month. Currently, the supplies coming to markets in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some other states are mostly from Maharashtra especially Satara, Narayangaon, and Nashik, which is expected to last till this month-end. Tomato supplies in Delhi-NCR are mainly from Himachal Pradesh and some also come from Kolar, Karnataka. New crop arrivals are expected soon from Nashik district, official sources said. In addition to this, additional supply is expected to arrive from the Narayangaon and Aurangabad belt. Madhya Pradesh arrivals are also expected to start. Prices are anticipated to cool down in the near future accordingly, they added. Though tomato prices have been on a high since the last one month, the Consumer Affairs Ministry had said few weeks ago that they will stabilise by mid-July, as supplies were expected from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. However owing to heavy rain and floods in both the states, tomato prices continue to hit the roof, forcing the Centre to source supplies from the southern and western states. Tomato is produced almost in all the states in India, though in varying quantities. Its maximum production is in southern and western regions of India, which contribute 56 per cent to 58 per cent of all India production. Southern and western regions being surplus states, feed to other markets depending on production seasons. The production seasons are also different across regions. The peak harvesting season occurs from December to February. The periods during July-August and October-November are generally the lean production months for tomato. The month of July coinciding with the monsoon season, adds to further challenges related to distribution and increased transit losses, thus leading to price rise. —

Amarnath yatra resumes after 3 days as weather improves
13-Jul-2023

Srinagar: The Amarnath yatra resumed on Sunday from Panjtarni and Sheshnag base camps after remaining suspended for three days due to inclement weather in Kashmir, officials said here.
As soon as the skies cleared around the cave shrine, the authorities opened the gates and allowed the stranded devotees to offer prayers at the naturally formed ice-lingam in south Kashmir Himalayas, they said.
"Those devotees who had already performed 'darshan' have been allowed to return to Baltal base camp," a senior official at the Panjtarni base camp told PTI over phone.
The Army has sheltered more than 700 Amarnath pilgrims at its camp in Qazigund in Anantnag district after they were stranded due to heavy rainfall in the valley.
Earlier, in the day no fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed from Jammu owing to inclement weather and closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, officials said.
Efforts are on to restore traffic on the highway which was blocked by multiple landslides and washing away of nearly 40-metre road stretch in Ramban district, leaving over 3,500 vehicles stranded, officials said.
While most parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced incessant rains since Thursday night, some areas near the high altitude Amarnath shrine recorded snowfall as well.
According to the meteorological department, the weather is likely to improve from Monday.
The officials said the clearance operation along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was hampered by incessant rains.
“The operation to clear the landslide debris and bypass the damaged portion of the road near Panthiyal tunnel through old road alignment is going on. Frequent shooting of stones from the hillocks overlooking the highway at Panthiyal delayed the restoration work,” a traffic department official said.
He said stranded vehicles will be cleared on priority once the road is made trafficable before allowing fresh traffic from Jammu and Srinagar.
The official said a fresh landslide at Ratta Chamb has blocked the Mughal road.
The road was cleared for traffic late afternoon on Saturday but was again blocked due to a fresh landslide, the official said, adding the clearance operation is on. —PTI

BJP will win with thumping majority in 2024 :Tamta
...................................

Sr. Journalist
New Delhi, 6 July 2023, (Agency) ред Former Union Minister of State and MP Ajay Tamta said that in 2024, BJP will form a government with thumping majority under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr. Tamta said this during an exclusive interview.
Talking about the achievements of the nine years of the Modi government, the former Union Minister said that the respect of the country has increased on the global stage today. Due to the untiring efforts of the Prime Minister, the 140 crore people of India feels proud. The MP said that new AIIMS, seven other IITs and more than 400 medical colleges were established in the country. Along with this, important works are being done at to renovated hostorical sites and religious places including construction of grand Ram temple and Kashi Corridor. The government has done their best in bringing prosperity on the face of the poor by giving schemes like cooking gas connection and toilet in every houshold.
On the question of the challenge from the grand alliance from opposition in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the MP said that in the 75 years of independence of the country, some political parties ruled for 54 years but gave more importance to familes and dynasty politics. This is the reason why these parties have been rejected by people. However, I wonder if they could have shown the same passion during their tenure, the scenario would have been different. It is not possible to stop the winning chariot of BJP by Grand Alliance. The whole country has understood the intentionbof opposition and knows that there is no better alternative than BJP. Modi government only works in the interest of the country and is moving in a rightful direction, working for betterment of the society.
Answering to the question of the challenges of passing the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, MP Tamta responded that Uniform Civil Code means having equal law for every citizen living in India, irrespective of religion or caste. We have made a better effort in Uttarakhand under the leadership of Pushkar Dhami ji.
The way Lord Ram's temple is being built, Vishwanath ji's temple was built in Kashi, triple talaq and Article 370 ended, similarly Uniform Civil Code will also be implemented.
This is included in the manifesto of our party from the very beginning.L.S.

Darbhanga, July 5, 2023 (Agency). Mithila, flooded by the flowing water of seven rivers since ancient times, has also started to remain dry. Due to this dryness, the villagers use motors in tubewells to supply water to the river for the devotees at Jiv Chhaghat a place of religious importance.
A unique inspiring incident came to the fore in the river walk organized by World Natural Democracy, when the yatra reached Jivchhaghat in the first stop from Kakarghati, some water was seen under the bridge, which was surrounded by mud and deposited. On enquiring, it was found that due to the complete drying up of the river, there was a lot of difficulty for the devotees coming here from far off places. They did not get water. Then the local people bought a motor for ten thousand rupees in the tubewell of their house with mutual cooperation and took out water through that motor and gave it to the river, so that the devotees could not face any difficulty said Former Principal Vidyanath Jha here , today.
Those who collect water in the river told that devotees come here from the neighboring country Nepal, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Hasanpur etc., they feel disappointed after coming here, because there is no water in the river, for this purpose a motor was installed by donating and water was arranged in the dry river.
For this commendable work, Jagdish Sahni, Shambhu Sahni and Ram Narayan Sahni were garlanded by environmentalist Narayan ji Chowdhary, the director of the campaign to save the pond in the third phase of the river satyagraha, and the botanist Prof. Jha, who came as the chief guest, covered him with a shawl was awarded. On the other hand, Jitendra Sahni and Rajdev Sahni, who could not reach to receive honor in the meeting of River Satyagraha, Dr. Javed Abdullah, President of World Natural Democracy, himself went to Jivchaghat and honored them. Rama Shankar Prasad, Managing Director, Bihar Zone, Ujjwal Bhavishya Foundation appreciated his charitable work.L.S.
