Big Decision by the Union Government in Farmers’ Interest: Boost to Pulses and Oilseeds Production

Raipur : In a significant relief to farmers for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025–26, the Union Government has approved the implementation of the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the procurement of pulses and oilseeds in Chhattisgarh. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has informed the Chief Minister, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, through an official letter that the state government’s proposal has been accorded approval.
According to the letter issued by the Union Minister, procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been approved for a total quantity of 21,330 metric tonnes of tur (pigeon pea), 25,530 metric tonnes of urad (black gram), 240 metric tonnes of moong (green gram), 4,210 metric tonnes of soybean and 4,210 metric tonnes of groundnut in Chhattisgarh during the Kharif marketing year 2025–26.
The procurement of these crops will be undertaken under the Price Support Scheme at MSP, ensuring that farmers receive a fair price for their produce. The Union Minister expressed confidence that this decision will provide substantial relief to farmers cultivating tur, urad, moong, soybean and groundnut, and will protect them from distress sales at below-market prices.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai expressed gratitude to the Union Government. He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, safeguarding the interests of farmers remains the state government’s “top priority”. He stated that all preparations for MSP procurement will be completed in a time-bound manner to ensure that farmers derive maximum benefit from the scheme. He further stated that the approval will provide “economic security” to farmers, encourage the production of pulses and oilseeds, and strengthen the state's rural economy.
