Raipur : Reviving water resources must for prosperity of villages: Forest Minister Akbar : Workshop on 'Nurva Vikaas'

Forest Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar today said that the State Government had initiated 'Suraaji Gaon Yojana' to strengthen the economy of the villages. The focus is on Narwa, Garuva, Dhurva, and Baari which will conserve, innovate and develop the rural economic landscape. There is a need for developing double-crop patterns and rejuvenating the water resources in the entire state. Forest Minister was addressing a workshop on 'Narva Vikaas Yojana' at Aranya Bhawan in Naya Raipur.

Mr. Akbar said that there are around 36 thousand small-big canals in the entire State. It is the second biggest riverine State in the entire country. The State Government is keen on conserving and rejuvenating canals which can bring transformation in the rural economy. If adequate infra-structure is built the irrigation facilities can be increased manifold. Technical and practical solutions should be implemented to manage the water resources. He stressed upon the need to study in detail the suggestions offered by the common people.

The Forest Minister Mr. Akbar said that rivers-canals are the main sources of water but due to rapid urbanization the number of canals had been reduced considerably. There is a need for master plan to conserve canals and lakes. The water-table can be increased through 'Narva' development. By improving the habitats of wild animals water resources can be made available throughout the year in the forest areas.

Khaitan said that are innumerable canals and water resources and abundant rainfall in the State but due to inadequate management and conservation of water the agriculture sector could not be developed to the optimum level. The workshop will elicit adequate suggestions from the gathering. Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma gave a detailed presentation on 'Nurva Vikaas Yojana'.
