Raipur: Special article: Initiative to bring national and international recognition to sportspersons: Sports Development Authority and Sports Excellence Center in every district

New initiative is being taken by the Government of Chhattisgarh to provide recognition to the sportspersons at the national and international level. It has been decided to implement the Center of Sports Excellence (Sports Academy) through the Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr. Umesh Patel. The youth festival is also being organized by the state government to promote traditional sports. A new sports policy has also been formulated to provide better sports facilities to the players. For the physical and mental development of the students in the schools, a contract has been signed by the School Education Department with the Tennwik Society, partnered by cricketer Anil Kumble.

    The Sports Excellence Centers (Sports Academy) will be started in every district of the state through the Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. Here players will have facilities of education as well as sports. Players will get all the facilities in this residential academy for free. Public sector and private sector industries will participate in the operation of the academy. The main objective of the authority is to coordinate in sports related departments and conduct international level sports events along with policy decisions in the field of sports. Apart from mobilizing the necessary resources for the Games, this authority will conduct the monitoring of sports excellence and monitoring of sports schools and various activities related to sports. The Authority's Deputy Chairman, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister and all ministers will be members.

Chief Minister Mr. Baghel has also announced a prize in the name of martyrs of Jheeram Valley to encourage sportspersons. As per the new provisions, the incentive amount of Rs 2 lakh for gold medal in individual sports, Rs 1.50 lakh for silver medal and Rs 1 lakh for bronze medal will be given to the medal winners in National Youth Game. Similarly, it has been announced to give one lakh rupees for gold medals, 75 thousand rupees for silver medals and 50 thousand rupees for bronze medal in sports games. It is noteworthy that 87 players of the state participated in 6 sports and received 10 medals in the Khelo India Youth Games held in Pune this year. (State players got 1 Badminton 2 in Individual Sports Boxing, 3 in Swimming, Weightlifting 2 in total and 8 boys in Kabaddi, 1-1 in Girls category) by the School Education Department. Physical development of students studying in class III to X in 30 schools of four districts Mahasamund, Kabirdham, Jagdalpur and Rajnandgaon 23 games have been selected for.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, Sports and Youth Welfare Department to celebrate the development block, district and state level youth festival on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with a view to provide special opportunities and platform to youth, to connect youth with cultural activities and to enhance their talent. The decision has been taken. The festival will be held between 15 October to 15 November at the development headquarters, between 15 November to 15 December at the district headquarters, and the state level festival in the capital Raipur from 12 to 14 January. The youth will showcase cultural talents in 18 genres at the festival. In addition to the 18 genres this year, the traditional Sua dance, Panthi dance, Karama Nacha, Sarhul Nacha, Bastariya folk dance, Raut Nacha, Phugdi, Bhanura, Gedi race, rock band (at state level) besides exposing Chhattisgarhi culture For traditional dress competition, Chhattisgarhi cuisine based food festival competition, Chhattisgarhi folk art and culture, historical heritage, traditional and tribal style SFTP Dropbox Account painting competition on the theme covers.

    The All India Civil Services Sports Competition was successfully organized this year in the capital Raipur. In which 1581 employees of Government of India and State Government participated in hockey, athletics, weightlifting, power lifting and body building. In this competition, players of the state received 15 medals in Athletic and 12 in Power Games and brought laurels to the state. Similarly, Raipur Half Marathon was organized at the national level in February 2019, in which 20 thousand youth participated. Foreign youth also participated in the marathon. The winners were awarded prizes of Rs 33 lakh. This event will now be held every year.

       To encourage sports in the state, a grant amount of more than Rs 38 lakh 65 thousand has been released for sports activities conducted by 23 state sports associations recognized by the Sports Department. Summer sports training camp was organized on summer vacation in all 27 districts of the state. Regular training in hockey, football, softball, kabaddi, cricket and volleyball games is being imparted regularly at Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg by the instructors posted in the department.
